While traveling the countryside, I found a sign that advertised a Mud Bog. Having been in Tennessee now for three years, I had no idea what a Mud Bog was. I called Chasity and asked her if she would like to go.
Chasity is always game for a new experience so we took off to watch the Mud Bog that Saturday. We really had no idea what to expect.
The idea behind the Mud Bog is to time trucks as they travel through 100 feet of mud. The person who drives through the Mud the fastest is the winner. As you can imagine, there is a lot of mud in the air and a ton of kids who are looking to be covered in mud.
Upon entering the gate, we realized that we were driving the wrong vehicle. I was driving a new 2013 Ford Fusion having a metallic silver color to it. The rest of them were driving trucks, old heaps, and I saw a number of confederate flags flying proudly on the back of their vehicles.
I thought to myself, "This is going to be interesting." We drove around and found a spot near the runway. I asked Kara, "Are you ready for a Mud Bath?"
Kara looked at me a little strange as I continued to tell her about all the mud that would be flying through the air. Brody said, "I am ready for the Mud!"
Before the show, they set off parachute fireworks for the kids who ran after the parachutes as they fell. Jordan, Kara and Brody all loved this activity. We even had burgers and a funnel cake before the show started.
When the main event began, the kids were all sitting next to the track ready for the mud. Jordan said, "Dad, I want to stand right here." Right here happened to be a cement block that opened into the Mud Bog area.
The trucks began their run and mud started flying. We got a few drops; however, it was not enough to cover our bodies or anything. The drivers as they returned back to the starting line gave my kids high-fives. They reached their hands out of the windows on the trucks to do this. My kids thought this was awesome.
At the end of the day, Brody was a little disappointed. He really wanted to get a complete Mud bath from head to toe.
