Sixth Birthday

*Post-Dated*

Brody turned six yesterday and we had fun. We started out the day going to his school where he passed out treats to all his classmates. He then was allowed to bring one thing for show and tell. He wanted to bring his new baby brother.

The kids in his kindergarten class all sat in a circle. Brody started out with some preliminary comments about his baby brother and then took questions. He looked like a ‘little’ President at a news conference as he called on people to ask questions.

I then informed him that his birthday party was about to begin. My first big event was going to the Social Security office so he could play in the waiting room. My kids love going to waiting rooms!! I drove to the Social Security office only to discover that the office address listed on Google was an outdated address. The office had been closed for two years. As I was reading an old aged sign on the door telling me where the new office was, I realize that I didn’t have a clue how to get there.

As I was thinking about what to do next, another van pulled up and a couple jumped out looking for the Socical Security office too. I suspect they were sent by the Lord because they knew exactly where the new office was and told me to follow them. When we got to the office, the kids had a blast playing with all the other kids.

The next thing on my agenda was to go to the auto repair shop. My brakes have been squeaking so I thought I better get them checked out. They pulled the wheels off and informed me that my brakes were new and that I didn’t have anything to worry about. I was blessed again because I was expecting to pay a few hundred for brakes. The squeaking was related to a slight adjustment and then I was sent on my way.

Grandpa had sent a card for Brody where he discovered three dollars!! Brody was so excited about the money because he had eight dollars already. We took Brody to Walmart to spend the pile (eleven dollars)! I used the experience to teach him some math too of course. He finally found three toys and was elated to go to the check out and buy them!

Brody’s birthday, from his perspective, seemed to be getting better at this point since he now had some toys in his hands. It was at this time that I informed him that we would need to take a birthday nap. I will admit that this was not a popular activity. He told me that his birthday was going downhill at that point. I told him he could take a nap while we drove in the car.

Chaz and I laughed as we drove to the Pizza Machine and surprised him!! When we pulled up, he said, “Why are we here?” I then said we wanted to pick up a few things. Chaz then said, “Yah, we want to pick up some pizza, ice cream and get some game tickets.”

Brody still hadn’t caught on yet so I slide the van door open and said, “Surprise, we are going to the Pizza Machine for your birthday.” You should have seen the energy coming out of Brody at that moment!! He was super excited and went immediately hyper. He had so much fun.

He doesn’t know it but today we have a surprise birthday party for him!! He thinks his birthday is all over so this will be fun too. We invited a few of his friends over to make pizza’s, watch speed racer and eat cake and ice cream.

Chaz and I love each other so much. We have so much fun together. When we look at each other, we know how good we have it. We praise the name of Jesus everyday for His many blessing. It is the love of Christ that compels us and allows us to really live life while ministering to the hurting, the intellectual as well as the lost. Life is an adventure for us and we are loving every moment.
