Birth of Jordan

Chaz called me at 10:30 in the morning. She said, “It is time for you to head home.” I was in Des Moines, IA which was a 2 1/2 hour drive away.

When I woke up that morning, I asked Chaz, “How are your contractions, are they getting stronger?” She said that they were not getting stronger. I had to go to Des Moines which was a 2 1/2 hour drive. I didn’t like the thought of being so far away. I new that Jordan’s birth was imminent.

After she called me at 10:30, I drove back to Omaha on Interstate 80 at a fairly fast pace I called her along the way to make sure she was not ready to go to the hospital.

When I pulled into Omaha, I felt like a huge burden had been lifted off my shoulders. I knew that I would not only be there for the birth; I would also be there to take her to the hospital.

Chaz didn’t know for sure whether it was a false alarm or not. After she had lunched, it seemed that the contractions were less intense (a sure sign of false labor). She was nervous that it was going to be another false call. At about 1:00, a friend on facebook wrote that the Lord had woke him up in the night sensing the need to pray for us. When I told my wife this, she was greatly encouraged. Her contractions began to get stronger about 30 minutes after hearing this news.

Chaz and I went to Target to pick up a DVR for the Cam-corder. She went for a brisk walk while we were there. After that we went to a grocery store and did some more brisk walking. After this, we went to the hospital and checked in.

I coach a Kindergarten basketball team which is just the most precious thing you can imagine. I had to call the assistant coach and ask him to handle the practice. I have a great team, but I knew that things were going to happen that night.

The doctors checked her to see if she was in labor. Chaz then heard those sweet words, “You are not going home without your baby today.” She was so excited!!

Brody and Kara both wanted to pray for their Mom before they went with my brother. Brody and Kara individually prayed that God would help their Mom make it safely through the delivery. Brody was very concerned when they pulled out the Ivy needle. Brody was ready to step in to protect his mom if needed. Kara was excited that she was going to see her baby brother. (By the way, she also wants a baby sister. That is another story).

Chaz’s water broke at 10:00 p.m. I watched as the contractions grew stronger and stronger. Chaz was such a soldier! She is just an amazing wife. At 1:29 a.m. on 2/2/2010, Jordan entered the world. I saw his hair first and then after three pushes, the baby was out!

Chaz and I prayed for Jordan shortly after he came into the world. We certainly feel blessed that God has given us another child. Children are a gift from the Lord and they add so much to life.

Chaz and I obviously did not get any sleep that night. We were moved from delivery to a baby room at 4:30 a.m. Chaz just kept holding the baby looking at it for hours. I fell asleep for an hour around 5:00 a.m. When I woke up at 6:00 a.m., Chaz was still there bright eyed interacting with the baby. I was amazed at her energy; however, she was so excited.

Chaz and I appreciate all your prayers and may God bless your life for your love of our family.
