Season Closes

The basketball season has come to a close! I had a great kindergarten team that played better than any team I have coached so far. They were able to score, pass and dribble (well, they dribbled when they wanted to). I had a lot of fun working with the kids!!

Brody started out the season floating around the court. He was not really playing basketball; rather, he was just kind of running around. After doing that for four or five games,

I told him, "Brody, do you know that all those people come to watch you play basketball?"

Brody: "Dad, I am playing basketball."

Dad: "Well, those folks don't think so. They just see you running around the court not playing basketball. They come to watch you make baskets. Don't you want everyone clapping for you when you make a shot?"

Brody: "Yah!"

Dad, "Well, keep your eye on the ball and go shoot a basket. If you will just make one shot, you can have one thing at the concession stand."

I didn't need to say anymore. Brody turned from being "lost in space" into "may the force be with you" type person. He was grabbing that ball and scoring for the rest of the season. In one quarter, he got the ball everytime and went to shoot. I can safely say that he now understands the game of basketball.

He still needs a little help on dribbling. He is scared to dribble at this point because, "someone might steal the ball" In his own words... I think we will work on that next year!!

I hope the kids learned about Jesus during the whole season. Great players always have a hard time sitting still for some reason. I was able to share the gospel with all of them and teach them a few of life lessons from a Biblical perspective at the same time.
