Earlier this year I had made a decision that Kara could go to camp. I asked her if she would like to go. Our church staff and members had organized a camping experience for the kids for a small cost. I made my proposal to Kara who was only too excited about going.
A few days before she took off, I was sitting on her bed with her and I asked her if she was excited. Out of no where she got a huge smile on her face and started bouncing on the bed. She was thrilled about going to camp and so excited.
On the day of departure, we all loaded into the car and took Kara to the bus site where she would load up and take off. While waiting for her departure, Jordan had decided that he was going to get on the bus and go with Kara.
Kara came to me rather exasperated saying, "Dad, I don't want Jordan going to camp with me because I will have to watch him the entire time." I said, "Don't you want to spend some good quality time with your brother?" She responded, "Yes, I like spending time with Jordan but I don't want to watch him the whole time I am at camp."
Jordan had gotten into the bus and was sitting on one of the seats ready to take off. He stood up and started waving his hand outside the window. Kara was standing there in total disgust just thinking about having to watch her brother rather than having a good time at the camp.
When Kara got home from camp, she had bruises everywhere on her body. I asked her, "Where did you get all those bruises?" She said, "I got this bruise from the tree when I went down the zip line. I got this other bruise when I fell on the rocks in the creek." She said, "I didn't cry because I was having fun."
My take on it was that Kara went to camp to have fun and fit in. I think she accomplished that. In addition, when she got home, she was ready to play with Jordan because she had missed him. Jordan was only too happy to see her because she is his best friend.
