*Post Dated*
It’s the time of year again when the schools are busy trying to make money. Chaz and I got a huge packet of information from Brody’s teacher with instructions to sell at least 14 subscriptions. Brody went out and hit the streets as instructed.
Kara didn’t want to be left out so she put on her shoes and went along too.
We approached the first house and both Brody and Kara rushed to push the door bell. I mean they didn’t just push it, they pushed it over and over again. I imagine the people in the house thought the end of the world was near with the urgency of the ringing.
As the customer came to the door, Brody began searching for distractions like cats and dogs to play with; however, nothing was there so he said
“Hi, my name is Brody.” While Brody was talking, Kara was doing a little dance trying to keep her balance on the stairs.
Brody looked the customer straight in the eye with that innocent boyish five year old look. He then reached out his hand to shake the customer’s hand. The hand shake always suprised everyone. I had taught Brody that trick from my days walking the streets.
Brody then said, “I am selling some really cool magazines for school.” He then would hold up his little book that had the listing of magazines to show them and say, “Which one do you want?”
I forgot how good a five year old can be at selling things. The people who were home in almost every case said, “Sure, let me look at your book!” and then proceed to whip out the check book.
Honestly, I didn’t think we were going to sell a thing since the subscriptions were $20-$130 each; however, was I ever wrong! I guess it is hard to say ‘no’ to a big blue eyed boy who shakes your hand who has a sister dancing for you at the same time.
