During the summer there are plenty of opportunities to go and visit someone who is having a yard sale. I generally looked at all the stuff and try to buy something since that is the point of having a yard sale.
Brody ran into the house saying, "Dad, the neighbors down the street are having a yard sale, can we go?"
"Sure, I think we can go to the yard sale. I have a dollar for you and Kara so go down and buy something."
The kids were excited to hear this. I make it a point to bless our neighbors whenever possible. I told the kids, "People like you to buy something even if it is small."
A few minutes later Brody walked into the house saying, "They closed the sale for today but they will have it again tomorrow."
The following day I walked with Jordan and Kara down to the sale. Kara had her dollar in hand and was ready to buy, buy, buy.
When we got there I noticed there were no price tags. I just looked around for awhile. Kara said, "Why do you have ants on all your toys?"
Kara had a run in with fire ants a few years back and the memory is still vivid in her mind of getting bitten by a horde of ants that had crawled up her leg.
Kara then asked, "How much does this stuff cost?"
The owner said, "It depends"
Kara looked at me and said, "Dad, I am ready to go. I don't have any pens." I laughed a little and said, "She said 'depends', not 'pens'. You just need to ask her how much something cost."
While looking around, Kara found a little toy and asked, "How much is this?" The lady said, "That cost a quarter." Kara said, "Well, I guess I can't get that then."
I said, "Kara, you have four quarters in a dollar so you can get that if you like. In fact, she will give you some change!"
That was great news to Kara's ear so she bought a little trinket
