Love for our Kids

Paul wrote: “We pray always for you…that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.” 2 Thess 1:11-12

As you watch our family, you can see all the work that Chaz and I have put into our kids. My goal for their life is not that they will be happy; rather, my goal is that they will know the love of God. The reason Paul was able to endure all types of hardships including beatings and many near death experiences is because he knew the love of God in his own life.

When Brody and Kara experience our love, I know that a part of me is in them. When they show love, I also know that a part of them is in me. As a result of experiencing love, my kids will be able to rise to the challenge of life because our love will empower them to build their life rather than run from it. When our kids confront something hard or difficult, they know that they do not stand alone.

When Paul talks about glory, he is talking about the same type of love that I have for my kids. When a person experiences love, you are able to see this love in their life. The love of God is a type of glory that all can see because it causes a Christian to live a life of faith regardless of life’s hardships.

A person’s life displays the glory of God in the same way that Christ Himself was able to confront the cross on Calvary because of the love shared between Him and the Father.

God is standing behind you so that you will build your life rather than run from it. In other words, you do not stand alone. God is standing right there beside you all the time as you personally experience His love within.

As you pray today, don’t pray for an easy life; rather, pray that you will experience the love of God. Instead of running from life, start building your life knowing that you no longer stand alone.
